We can spend a lot of time hoping things will go back to the way they were. We hope relationships will be restored, that people will come back, that something will finally make sense.

And sometimes we quietly assume that if God is restoring our lives, He must be bringing everything we lost back with Him.

But I’m learning that restoration doesn’t always look like replacement.

Sometimes God doesn’t give us back the life we had. Sometimes He teaches us how to live in the life that remains. That doesn’t mean we aren’t allowed to grieve what was lost.

It doesn’t mean we have to pretend everything is okay or convince ourselves that what happened was somehow good.

It means we can eventually stop waiting for the old life to return and begin asking a different question: God, what does it look like to walk with You from here?

That’s where I am learning to live again. Not with all the answers, not with everything restored, and not with every loss replaced. Just here, in the life that remains, trusting that God is still with me.

Maybe reclaiming your life isn’t about getting everything back.

Maybe it’s realizing that your life still belongs to you—even after everything fell apart.
