People often talk about moving on as though it’s simply a decision we make. But sometimes we’re trying to move on from something we loved, something we were loyal to, or a future we genuinely believed we were going to have.

That’s what can make moving on so painful. We’re not just letting go of what was; we’re grieving what we thought would be.
Sometimes moving on means learning to trust ourselves again. It can mean letting go of the need for everyone to understand our choices and beginning to make decisions based on who we’re becoming instead of what we’ve lost.
